Delhi Private Schools Grant Admission to 6,000 Students Under EWS, DG, and CWSN Categories

Delhi private schools have chosen about 6,000 students for entry-level classes (nursery, KG, and Class 1) for the 2025-26 academic year. This selection includes students from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Disadvantaged Group (DG), and Children with Special Needs (CWSN) categories. The Directorate of Education (DoE) held a fair, computerized draw of lots on July 24, 2025, to ensure equal opportunities. Candidates must fit specific age and eligibility criteria, and the results can be checked on edudel.nic.in. This process follows the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which supports inclusive education.

Selection Results for 2025-26 Admissions

The DoE reported that 5,993 students were selected through the computerized draw for private unaided schools in Delhi. This includes 2,919 for nursery, 733 for KG, and 2,341 for Class 1. The draw on July 24, 2025, used an automated process to guarantee transparency, as required by a DoE circular from February 27. Parents can view the results on edudel.nic.in by using their application details.

Eligibility and Age Criteria

For the EWS and DG categories, eligible ages as of March 31, 2025, are: 3-5 years for nursery, 4-6 years for KG, and 5-7 years for Class 1. CWSN candidates have relaxed age criteria: 3-7 years for nursery, 4-8 years for KG, and 5-9 years for Class 1. EWS applicants must provide an income certificate showing their family income is below Rs 5 lakh per year or a BPL/Antyodaya Anna Yojana card. DG includes SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), orphans, transgender children, and those with HIV. CWSN applicants need a government-issued disability certificate.

Transparent Admission Process

The DoE’s computerised draw prevents manual interference, ensuring fairness according to Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act, which requires private schools to reserve 25% of seats for EWS, DG, and CWSN. The process, starting on February 3, 2025, allocated over 42,000 seats in the first round. Education Minister Sood emphasised better access by raising the EWS income limit from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Parents should be cautious of fraudsters claiming they can influence admissions.

Next Steps for Selected Candidates

Selected students must finalise their admissions by August 5, 2025. They need to submit documents like income certificates (for EWS), caste certificates (for DG), or disability certificates (for CWSN) at their assigned schools. Not complying may result in losing the seat. A second round of applications runs until August 10 for any vacant seats, especially for CWSN and transgender categories, which had fewer applicants.
